Dear subscribers,
A couple of weeks ago, several hundred delegates from all four UK nations and the higher, further, prison and adult and community education sectors met in Bournemouth for UCU’s annual Congress. Congress is the highest policy-making body of our union, which many UCU Commons members attended, either in our capacity as NEC members or as representatives of our branches or regions.
This report was kindly written by Mark Pendleton (University of Sheffield), outgoing vice-chair of the Higher Education Committee from the pre-92 university sector. Mark continues for one more year on the NEC as the representative of LGBT+ members from the Higher Education sector.
The report covers institutional racism in UCU, ‘recalling’ sector conferences, enabling future hybrid meetings, active international solidarity and more besides. We welcome all constructive, comradely feedback and discussion - you can reach us on Twitter/X @ucucommons and Bluesky on @ucucommons.bsky.social
In solidarity,
UCU Commons
