Don't Be Outvoted!

Have your say in the NEC and national officer elections!

Dear subscribers,

As we all know too well, the government’s anti-union laws mean that in order to obtain a mandate for industrial action, a union must meet the 50% election turnout threshold. This we achieved, spectacularly, in the #ucuRISING ballot campaign in September-October 2022.

But we hear much less about the turnout in UCU’s National Executive Committee and officer elections, which is far, far lower at approximately 8-12%. In 2022, fewer than 10,000 members voted in these elections, and it is these elections that determine who makes decisions about UCU’s industrial action strategy. Since these elections are just as important as strike ballots, why is turnout consistently so low?

We’re very proud of this short video we’ve made about UCU voter turnout. So proud, in fact, that we’ll let it speak for itself. But please, in both the upcoming re-ballot and the NEC and officer elections: use your vote.

Don’t be disenfranchised: have your say!

In solidarity,
