Don't waste your vote.
This is your very last chance to have your say on who leads our union. Please use it.
Dear subscribers,
After a five-week voting period, the 2024 UCU General Secretary, Vice President, NEC and trustee elections are about to close.
This is your last chance to have your say. Please don’t waste your vote.
Tomorrow (Monday 26th February) is the last safe day for you to send off your ballot freepost. This means that tomorrow, you can still send your ballot off with no stamp on it, just by popping it in your nearest postbox.
After this, you can send your ballot off on Tuesday 27th or Wednesday 28th if you attach a first-class stamp. If you leave it until Thursday 29th, you will need to pay for recorded delivery to ensure that it arrives on time.
Still not sure who to vote for? As a group, UCU Commons decided to endorse the following candidates:
For General Secretary: Jo Grady
For Vice President: David Hunter
For NEC: we have a list of candidates standing across the UK and in a variety of positions. All candidates standing for UCU Commons share our core values. We strongly recommend ranking these candidates as first preferences when voting, and we only endorse other candidates in seats where no-one from UCU Commons is standing, or where multiple seats are up for election and we are standing fewer candidates than there are seats. This means we also recommend voting for the following candidates:
Mark Taylor-Batty (for voters in the North East region);
Alison Hawkings and Nico Rosetti (for voters in London).
However, regardless of how you wish to vote, please do vote. The turnout for UCU elections - especially for the Vice President and NEC - is very low, and it is only by dramatically increasing this turnout that we can have a union leadership that reflects our membership.
Please also consider forwarding this email to your UCU contacts. The fewer votes wasted, the better.
In solidarity,
UCU Commons
